Barrier Beam Alarm System

Two boxes which through an Infra Red beam across each other. When this beam is broken it sets off an alarm bell.
Used to secure rooms where locked off equipment is being placed to decrease the chances of tampering (or alert the team if someone is entering the area), or where there have been reports of objects or apparitions moving along an area.

Dowsing Rods

Two L shaped pieces of metal (in this case steel) which are gently held in each hand. With practice the dowsing rods are said to answer questions or show the location of objects or spirits.
Traditionally known for being used to locate water.

2 Way Radios

Essential for ensuring safety and the whereabouts of the group, the two way radios offer quick and easy communications. Particularly useful when investigating large locations or when the groups are split into 2 or more teams investigating different locations of the site. Something to be aware of and remember is that two way radios frequently pick up radios from outside such as taxi's and even the police. If you get voices coming through on them it is not neccessarily (or very often) EVP.

Digital Infra Red Thermometer

This thermometer has 2 settings. A general setting will take the atmospheric temperature directly in front of the sensor, and by pressing a button the thermometer throws out an infra red beam and the thermometer will read the temperature of wherever the beam touches
Useful for monitoring changes in temperature (both perceived and actual) associated with paranormal investigating.

Digital Cameras

Taking pictures around locations can often turn up some interesting evidence, and this is primarily what the digital camera is used for. Working in dark locations means a flash is absolutely essential, but can play havoc with your night vision!

Environment Metre

As the name suggests the environment metre is used to take reading of environment – that is temperature, sound levels, humidity and light levels. This information is important to establish during the base line survey and constantly monitor throughout the investigation looking for changes that could both explain personal experiences and occurrences

Digital Tape Measure

Infra Red measuring tool which can be used to measure distances and pin point exact locations

Gauss Metres (EMF Readers)

An Electromagnetic Field detector that reads the presence and changes in electromagnetic fields
For more on Electro Magnetic Fields and the use of EMF meters on investigations, please visit the "Science" section of this web-site.

Compass

Typical map compass can be used to orientate yourself in large locations, and detect differences in magnetic fields.

Digital Camcorders with NightshotPlus

The most important piece of kit for paranormal investigating is the night vision camcorder, which is use to document the investigation and capture any evidence that occurs.

Laptops

Used to run both the security camera footage and in experiments during the investigations, and then afterwards for reviewing your camcorder footage for any evidence. Also within a locked off environment a microphone can be plugged into a laptop and using an audio recording programme any sounds can be captured and studied.

Static Security Camera System

4 small static infra red cameras linked through a wireless network to a computer that can be used to monitor locations or locked off rooms during an investigation, freeing up camcorders to be used by the rest of the investigations team. Can be run on battery and mains electric

Night Vision Scope

Used for monitoring the areas when the camera is not available, particularly useful in larger locations

Bat Detector

Bats are present in many locations, and their activity can accidently be perceived as paranormal. This bat detector can be used to identify if bats are present in the location, so that this can be accounted for.

Glow Sticks – Emergency Lighting

Snap light provide an long lasting emergency lighting in a worst case scenario.

½ million candle lantern

If you want to light up a large room or area then this is the torch for you. The large battery pack means it will outshine most torches, but if you look straight into the beam it will hurt your eyes, and destroy your night vision for some time.

Dictaphone

Old fashioned tape recorders, and the newer digital recorders can be used to detect noise, sounds and voices during the investigation, and as part of experiments.

Clipboard, notebook, pens and pencils

Essential to take notes throughout the investigations on information generated from your equipment and personal experiences from the rest of your team.

Carry cases and tool box

Used for the safe transportation of all of your equipment into and out of the location

First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit

For both team and public events, if there is an accident then you need to have a first aid kit to deal with the situation.
